Since 01 August 2010 I am, together with my colleague Johann Buddenbäumer, the first dual student at the insurance broker LEUE & NILL in Dortmund.
- And a lot has really happened in that time:
First, I went through the property insurance department. Here I was able to learn the insurance business from scratch. Lively customer contact, especially with regard to household and homeowners insurance as well as personal liability insurance, was the focus of my work. In the further course of the practical training, I discovered how complex LEUE & NILL's customers really are. First of all, the liability department dealt with the appropriate insurance cover for our commercial customers, before I was allowed to look after our internationally active industrial customers in the "International Division". That was a particularly exciting phase of the training with a lot of variety. Another highlight of my training was the supervision of a network project in which a large number of companies were to be won over by the product I designed. In this way, I was also able to apply the business management knowledge I had gained during my studies.
In the winter of 2012/2013, I successfully completed my training as an insurance and finance clerk by passing the IHK final examination and subsequently worked in the credit insurance department. Here I got to know the insurance business from a completely different side.
At the same time, I was studying for a bachelor's degree in insurance management at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences. While the first semesters focused on general business subjects, such as marketing, human resources and corporate management, law, taxes and accounting, as well as business mathematics and statistics, the higher semesters have a stronger industry focus, e.g. through subjects such as insurance sales, product development and risk management. Last winter, I wrote my Bachelor's thesis and thus achieved the Bachelor of Arts degree. For this, I was able to use one of the many projects from my practical work.
After completing my bachelor's degree in spring 2014, I moved to the "LEUE & NILL Sales" department. Here I mainly look after and acquire industrial customers. This work is very varied because I constantly get to know interesting personalities and companies in the field.
To further my education, I am currently studying part-time at the FOM in Dortmund in the field of sales management. I can also rely on my employer LEUE & NILL for the master's degree, which gives me the necessary freedom for my studies.
