I am Lena Makowski, I started my apprenticeship at LEUE & NILL on August 1, 2021, and completed it on January 15, 2024. Now I work in the Technical Insurance Operations department at the AXA Group.
How did you come to do your apprenticeship at Leue?
When I applied to several insurance companies here in Dortmund back then, I happened to come across a job posting from LEUE & NILL and applied here as well.
How did your work week go (when school or university)?
In my first and second year of apprenticeship, I always had vocational school on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and was at the company or working from home on the other days. The work-from-home days varied from department to department. In my third year of apprenticeship, I switched from part-time to block instruction due to the shortening of my training.
Do you enjoy looking back on your training at Leue & Nill?
Yes, I really enjoyed the training. I got along well with my fellow trainees and we had a great time.
What caused you the most problems at the beginning of your training? Such as phone calls, sleep schedule, etc.
I think, like many others, making phone calls is one of those activities you don't like doing. Over time, however, you get used to it and then it is no longer unpleasant.
A highlight moment in the training
Highlights were always the time spent together with the other trainees, for example when going on trips or to trade fairs like the DKM.
How did things go for you after your training? Talk about your career path.
After my training, I first settled into the „normal daily work routine“ in the TV department. Then, in March 2024, I started further education to become an advanced training specialist (Fachwirt).
Do you still have contact with your former fellow trainees? What was your relationship with the other trainees like in general?
I am still in touch with my fellow apprentices and I'm also happy when we occasionally run into each other again or spend our lunch break together.
How was your relationship with your training managers?
I always got along well with my training supervisors. She had an open ear for every matter and you never felt like you had to deal with anything alone.
Did you find the training stressful, or did you feel stressed during your training, e.g., school, university?
By and large, I had few periods of stress. Stressful phases only occurred during exam periods and before the final exams.
