Our origins date back to the year 1864. At that time, Albert Leue took over an agency of „Vaterländische Feuerversicherungs-AG“ in Dortmund. At the same time, Julius Nill brokered his first fire insurance policy for a toy factory in Nuremberg. In 1879, he expanded his activities and founded the Nill-Nuremberg general agency.
Albert Leue's son Carl remained loyal to the industry and founded a general agency for „Transatlantische Feuerversicherungs-AG“ in Dortmund in 1881, which he ran together with his brother Albert. In Nuremberg, Julius Nill's son Wilhelm took over „Nill-Nürnberg“ and continuously expanded it.

LEUE & Co. becomes LEUE & NILL
Until the early 1950s, the businesses of the Leue and Nill families continued to develop independently of each other. Until Erich Leue managed to bring Stefan Nill on board as a partner in his company. One year later, in 1954, the company Leue & Co. was renamed LEUE & NILL. Thus, the families were brought together by the grandsons of the two company founders. Due to sustained economic success, the company grew continuously. By its centenary, the number of employees had risen to 160.
Shape structural change
In 1969, Axel and Dietrich Nill joined the family business—and did so in turbulent times. Structural change in the Ruhr region was on the horizon, and the two of them anticipated earlier than most competitors what consequences this would have for companies in the industries that dominated at the time: coal, steel, and beer. To make their own company more independent of individual industry developments, the two pursued two key strategies. First, expansion beyond the regional borders of the region; second, they developed insurance solutions that were tailored to specific customer needs and did not exist anywhere else. This approach proved to be very successful. And so today we are proud to count numerous global market leaders and „hidden champions“ among our clients, whom we have had the privilege of supporting since their inception. Thanks to the right strategic decisions and highly motivated employees, Axel and Dietrich Nill were able to develop their company over the following decades into one of the most high-performing brokers in the industry in Germany.
The new generation is taking over
As representatives of the fifth generation, Joachim and Stefan Nill joined the company in 2000. With them began the continuous expansion of our international activities. Milestones along this path included becoming the only German company permitted to become a partner of Assurex Global. The world's largest network of independent insurance brokers is represented at more than 600 locations worldwide. A special honor was bestowed upon Stefan Nill in 2011, when he was elected as the first non-U.S. citizen to serve as Chairman of the Board of the network and remains a member of the Board to this day.
Since 2007, Klaus-Michael Ossenkopp has strengthened the management board as the first non-family member with his expertise, which he acquired, among other places, in leadership positions at renowned insurance companies.
We have always evolved and grown continuously. We want to continue down this path. True to our motto: Regionally rooted. At home worldwide.

With many years of experience, entrepreneurial thinking, and an eye for the essential, Joachim and Stefan Nill, Torben Ristau, and Andreas Faden are shaping the future of LEUE & NILL. Each of them brings individual strengths to the table – whether in international orientation, digital transformation, the expansion of sales structures, or the development of new solutions for our clients.
The management stands for sustainable growth, technological advancement, and customer-centric strategies – today and in the future. This is not about a radical new beginning, but rather about the consistent evolution of our path.
