Interview with a dual student

Feel free to introduce yourself:

Hello, I am Lukas and have been doing a dual study program at LEUE & NILL since August 2023. I am 19 years old and really enjoy the program. I am very grateful to have found a very pleasant and family-like training position with LEUE & NILL.

What does a typical week look like for you?

On Mondays and Tuesdays I am at the university the entire workday, while I work at the company or from home for the rest of the week.

How does a year/a semester work?

A semester begins with the lecture period, during which one is at the university on Mondays and Tuesdays. This phase lasts until the exam period. During the exam period, which spans several weeks, there are no more regular lectures – one only visits the university for the exams. After the completion of the exams, there are about two months of semester break, during which one works the entire week at the company or can easily take one's vacation. 

How stressful is the dual study program?

The stress level in a dual study program varies greatly. During the lecture period, the workload is generally moderate and manageable. In the exam phase, however, stress increases significantly because the exams often follow each other closely and require intensive preparation. Nevertheless, the workload can be managed well through good time management.

What was your best/worst moment?

The most beautiful moment of my studies was the beginning. Everything was new: the first lectures, new acquaintances, and the excitement for what was to come.
There were hardly any bad moments. If there were any, they were mostly related to exams.

How is your daily routine at the company?

That always depends on the department. As a rule, you receive tasks from your trainer or work together with them. That varies from writing emails to customers to team meetings with the insurer.

Why did you choose that?

I chose the dual study program because I like the combination of insurance and business administration and am interested in both topics.

Do you have any tips in advance?

An important tip for your studies is not to despair too much over the difficulty. With a little effort and good organization, it is very manageable.

Would you choose it again?

Yes, I would choose the dual study program again. I do not regret this decision, as it offers me both theoretical knowledge and valuable practical experience.
